NordPass Review
Verdict: NordPass combines modern XChaCha20 encryption with a clean, beginner-friendly app and one of the lowest paid prices in the category. Its free plan is limited to one active device at a time, so most people will want Premium.

Security & Encryption
NordPass encrypts your vault on your device with XChaCha20, a modern cipher that is fast on phones and laptops and is considered at least as secure as AES-256 by cryptographers. It follows a zero-knowledge model: Nord Security never sees your master password or your unencrypted data.
NordPass is built by Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, and has commissioned independent security audits. Your account can be protected with an authenticator app, and biometric unlock keeps everyday access fast without weakening the master password.
Features
Alongside passwords, NordPass stores passkeys, secure notes, credit cards and personal details for form filling. Premium adds a password health report that flags weak, reused and old passwords, and a data breach scanner that checks whether your details appear in known leaks.
Sharing with other NordPass users is simple but basic — fine for passing a streaming login to a family member, less suited to complex team permissions. Separate business plans add an admin panel and activity logs.
Pricing
Paid plans start from $1.49 a month on longer subscriptions, one of the lowest prices we’ve seen for a full-featured manager. Family plans cover several users, and business plans are priced per user. Introductory prices usually apply to the first term, so check the renewal price before you commit. The free plan is genuinely free but allows only one active session at a time.
Ease of Use
NordPass is designed for simplicity. Setup means creating a Nord Account, choosing a master password and importing passwords from your browser or another manager, and the apps share the same clean layout across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and the browser extensions.
The flip side of that simplicity is fewer options: power users who like to tweak autofill rules or organise large vaults into detailed structures may find it limiting.
Customer Support
NordPass offers round-the-clock support via chat and email, plus a help centre covering setup, imports and troubleshooting — the same support model NordVPN customers will recognise.
Who NordPass is best for
NordPass is a good fit for beginners who want a clean, simple app at a low price, and for anyone who already uses NordVPN and wants to keep their security tools under one account. Households can share logins on a family plan without much setup.
It’s less suitable if you want a free plan that syncs your phone and computer at the same time, need fine-grained sharing permissions, or prefer open-source software.
How we evaluated NordPass
This review is based on NordPass’s own security documentation, its published independent audit and penetration-test reports, the plans and prices listed on its website, its official list of supported platforms and browsers, and its public security record, including any disclosed incidents. Every manager is scored with the same weighted criteria described in our methodology. Prices are list prices at the time of our last update — plans and introductory offers change often, so always check the vendor’s site before you buy.
Alternatives to consider
- Bitwarden — open-source, with a free plan that covers unlimited devices.
- 1Password — more features and richer form filling; see NordPass vs 1Password.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is NordPass free?+
Yes, there is a free plan, but it allows only one active device at a time. Premium removes that limit and adds password health and breach scanning.
Is XChaCha20 safer than AES-256?+
Both are considered secure. XChaCha20 is newer and fast on devices without AES hardware acceleration; in practice, your master password and 2FA matter far more than the cipher.
Is NordPass made by NordVPN?+
Yes. Both are products of Nord Security and share the same security team and support infrastructure.
Does NordPass support passkeys?+
Yes. NordPass can create, store and autofill passkeys in supported browsers and apps.
