What every review covers
Every review on LearnRankReviews follows the same structure, so you can compare managers quickly. Each one starts with a short verdict, an overall score and the key facts — price, free plan, platforms and encryption — then goes into detail on five areas:
- Security: how the vault is encrypted, how the key is derived from your master password, which two-factor options are available, published audits and the company’s security history.
- Features: what you can store, sharing options, breach monitoring, passkeys and extras such as emergency access.
- Pricing: individual, family and business plans, what the free plan allows, and renewal prices.
- Ease of use: setup, importing, browser extensions, mobile apps and how autofill is designed to work.
- Support: available channels and the quality of help-centre and migration guides.
Each review also explains who the manager is best for, who should look elsewhere, and which alternatives to consider, with links to the relevant comparisons.
How we score
All managers are rated with the same weighted criteria — security and encryption (35%), price and value (20%), ease of use (20%), platform coverage (15%) and customer support (10%) — combined into one score out of 10. The full rubric and our sources are on the methodology page. The score is our editorial rating, not an average of user reviews.
Where to start
If you want a quick recommendation: Bitwarden is the best choice for most people, especially if you want a free plan that works on all your devices. 1Password is the most polished option if you are happy to pay. NordPass is a simple, low-cost choice, Dashlane suits beginners who value guided setup and breach alerts, and LastPass is mainly relevant to existing users who have secured their accounts since its 2022 breach.
Prices and plans change often, so treat the prices in each review as a guide and check the vendor’s site before you buy.
Warning signs when choosing any password manager
- No published security details. A trustworthy vendor explains how your vault is encrypted and publishes independent audits.
- No way to export your data. You should always be able to take your passwords with you.
- Weak account protection. Look for support for authenticator apps, hardware security keys or passkeys on the account itself.
- Unclear renewal pricing. Check what the plan costs after the first term, not just the introductory price.
- Silence after incidents. How a company communicates after a security problem says a lot about how it treats customers.
All five managers we review publish security documentation, support data export and offer strong two-factor options; where their track records differ, the reviews explain how.
Before you subscribe
Use the free plan or trial first, check the renewal price, and make sure the manager has apps for every device you own. Pay annually only once you are sure — monthly billing costs more, but it is easier to cancel if the manager turns out not to suit you.
